The Best Way How To Lose 5 Pounds Fast
Inside: Do you want the formula on how to lose 5 pounds fast? How surprised would you be if I told you all you needed to lose 5 pounds was an open mind, a smartphone, and a 2-week commitment?
No, I’m not blowing smoke up your skirt. I’m serious.
The key to losing weight is by achieving a calorie deficit. A calorie what? A calorie deficit is when you’re consuming fewer calories than you’re burning over a specific time.
You know the old story, dieting alone isn’t the only way to lose weight. Although it’s possible, if you don’t move your body it’s going to take longer to achieve.
As someone who spent most of their life thin, I started packing on weight during and after my pregnancy. I was one of the unfortunate ones who was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder. Leave it to me to get the kind that made me gain 15 pounds in a month.
For those of you who have a hormonal imbalance that messes up with the way you lose or gain weight, you may be thinking it’s a hopeless cause. In reality, it’s not. You just may need to work a little harder.
Exercise
Most people hate to exercise. Let’s face it, if you’re reading this article I’ll guarantee you, you hate exercise also. It makes us hot, sweaty, and exhausted, but no one’s saying you have to have to run a 5k or take an hour-long spinning class.
The easiest way to exercise is to just walk.
I’m sure you know how to do that.
We walk to the fridge. We walk to the car. We walk (okay maybe run) during Black Friday when Walmart has that one single 72” flat screen on sale for $30. You get my gist.
Exercise doesn’t have to be hard, but it has to be something you incorporate into your daily life.
I’m sure you’re asking yourself, if I don’t exercise can I still lose 5 pounds fast? Yes-sir-re-bob you can, only it may take you a little bit longer.
Exercise is great for your health, but if you truly want to achieve a caloric deficit, exercise will get you there quicker. Why? because you’re burning calories.
Diet
To some, the scale and the word diet are evil curse words that should never be uttered. The thing about the word diet is, for some it’s the kiss of death and they know they’re going to fail.
Why? When you put yourself on a diet, most of the time you’re either trying to starve yourself by limiting the number of calories you’re shoving in your mouth or you find some crazy diet that’s so restrictive you won’t stick with it.
There are so many different diets out there. There are the ever-popular Keto and Atkins diets, which want you to dramatically reduce your carb intake. Reducing your carbs to 20 or 30 grams a day may seem great, but unless you’re a diabetic and your healthcare provider told you to eat that small amount, you’re going to put yourself in the state of ketosis.
Ketosis is when you burn your fat for energy, and that’s the key to Keto and Atkins diets. Don’t get me wrong, both of these plans work, but they’re so hard to stick with because they’re restrictive.
According to the University of Chicago Medicine, ” The keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. Strict diets like keto could also cause disordered eating. Keto is not safe for those with any conditions involving their pancreas, liver, thyroid or gallbladder”.
Any diet where eating a banana is taboo is not a good diet for you. You need carbs for good brain function.
Sure you can lose 5 pounds fast on a low-carb diet, but would you rather be thin and unhealthy, or thin and healthy?
In a nutshell, all diets will work as long as you continue with them, but for most people, the second you slip and eat a donut or something else ooey-gooey, you’ll typically say to yourself, “Screw this. I’m a failure. I can’t take it anymore, Since I already cheated I may as well finish out the day and eat whatever I want…where’s the phone number for the pizza place again?
Diets do work 75% of the time. The other 25% of the time, whether you believe it or not, you’re self-sabotaging yourself.
Our brains are both wonderful and dangerous at the same time.
This is how you lose 5 pounds fast
Have you ever heard of Noom?
Noom isn’t a diet per se. Noom is a weight loss program that uses a psychology-based approach to change the way you eat. Let me tell you this; it works.
There are no meetings to attend, but you’re not on your own. You see, Noom is a mobile coaching app for your phone that aims to help you make behavioral changes in how you look at food.
There was a time in my life when I could turn anything unhealthy healthy, but now Noom has taught me to squash the insane and warped way I viewed food to now look at food the way a sane person should. More on that below.
What’s really cool about Noom is, that it’s different for everyone. It’s not a cookie-cutter weight loss program that tells you what you can eat and how much to eat. Noom works by changing the way you view food, and the kicker is, NO FOOD IS OFF LIMITS.
That’s right, you heard me. NO FOOD IS OFF-LIMITS. If you want a slice of carrot cake, you can have it, but it needs to fit into your daily calorie budget.
If you want to eat roast beef hoagie, you can have it, once again just as long as it fits in your daily calorie budget.
Aside from psychology, Noom wants you to achieve a caloric deficit. Remember I mentioned that above? Most people regardless of their height and weight will be given a daily calorie budget of between 1200 and 1400 calories.
It’s the deficit that helps you lose weight.
How does Noom work?
The way Noom works is pretty simple. You fill out a profile that includes your height, weight, gender, age, general health info, goal weight, etc… The answers you provide will give you an estimated time when you should reach your target weight.
Noom puts you in control of what goes in your mouth. Although there are no foods off-limits, they break down the food you eat into three categories; green, yellow, and red. Noom wants you to eat foods from each color category, but most of the foods you eat should be from the green category.
The green category consists of foods that are the least calorie-dense and/or contain the most nutrients and should make up the greater portion of your diet. Such foods would be fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Green foods should make up the bulk of your diet.
The yellow category consists of foods that have more calories and/or have less healthy nutrients, such as but not limited to lean meats, legumes, and low-fat dairy. These foods should be eaten in moderate portions.
The red category consists of foods that are the most calorie-dense and/or have the least healthy nutrients, such as but not limited to red meats and desserts. Although these foods are permissible because NO FOODS ARE OFF LIMITS, they should be eaten less frequently.
As you can see from the images below, this was all the food I ate in one day. Since I walked on the treadmill and walked a total of 8,806 steps, I was allotted a total of 1,420 calories, which I didn’t even come close to eating that many. I finished out that day at 1,231 calories.

If you look at the yellow foods, I went over a bit, but that’s okay. You see, you don’t have to eat that exact number of calories for each color category. It’s there to be used as a guide.
Per Medical News Today, they showed a survey “of 35,921 Noom users, 77.9% reported a reduction in body weight while using the app. The researchers found that users who monitored their weight and dietary habits more frequently experienced more consistent weight loss”.
What I really like about Noom is, that they’re pretty wacky. They have a very interesting sense of humor and it’s one I adore. The way they write their articles isn’t “sterile”. It’s more like your friend is rooting you on in your weight loss journey.
Diet restrictions due to a medical condition
Regardless of what medical condition you have, (please see your healthcare provider, dietician, or nutritionist for your allotment of daily calories), you can still partake in Noom. Everyone needs to eat to survive.
Noom doesn’t tell you what foods you need to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks. That’s up to your control.
Since Noom doesn’t have restrictions, you can still eat the foods you love (in moderation of course) if you had a colonoscopy, a thyroid condition, diabetes, or a heart condition.
Peachy Tip: Always consult your health care provider before starting any diet or exercise program.
The proof is in the pudding
The best way to lose 5 pounds fast is to give Noom a try. I’m serious about this. I’m two weeks in and I’ve gotten rid of close to 8 pounds and I’m eating a lot of food, I’m not hungry and I’m actually eating real food. By walking a mile a day, I’m also increasing the amount of food I can eat, which is putting me in a caloric deficit.
If you’re looking for a meal plan or someone to tell you what you need to eat per meal, then you’re not going to find that with Noom. They do offer that as an extra, but isn’t it better to change the way you choose what you eat than be told what to eat?
What does Noom allow?
Noom allows you to choose your foods, but you need to remember to choose them wisely. Noom is there to help you see the way you look at food and to fix our distorted views on food.
With Noom, there’s NO bad food. Noom shows you how to break the chain and drills into you, you are in control of your actions.
You may search, “what types of foods can I eat on Noom”, and you’ll probably see the same color-coded charts all over the place, but the thing is this. As great as those charts are, there is no way they can’t put down every food known to man-kind on their cheat sheets.
Like I’ve said over and over. With Noom, NO FOOD IS OFF LIMITS.
If you get down and dirty with it, we don’t over-eat or indulge in comfort foods because we like to over-eat. We over-eat or indulge due to social cues and emotional triggers. Noom helps you squash this problem.
So in theory, your brain is the one that will help you lose 5 pounds fast. Your brain will tell you to shut your mouth and don’t put the third fried pork chop in your mouth or to pass on your second slice of chocolate cake.
In the same token, your brain may be corrupt and gets its jollies having you eat something you know you shouldn’t and leads you down the path of self-destruction.
Don’t you want to be in control of your destiny? Don’t you want to face the internal saboteur in your sub-conscience and tell them to take a flying leap off a very high bridge?
Of course, you do.
Noom is your key to how to lose 5 pounds fast. By giving Noom just 2 weeks and reading the articles, practicing and committing to their psychological teachings, you’ll see that anything you put your mind to can be a reality. You will learn that NO FOOD IS OFF LIMITS, and you’ll learn how to take control over what you put in your mouth.
My challenge to you is to give Noom a test drive. If you sign up using my referral link, you will get a 2-week free trial and 20% off the cost of the program if you decide you’d like to continue with it. If you don’t click my referral link and go straight to the Noom website, they only give you a 1-week trial, and no discount if you sign up.
What’s the catch, how much does Noom cost?
I had heard Noom charges different individuals different prices, which to me is a pretty shitty thing to do, but after looking up the pricing schedule on the Noom website, this is what I found:
I signed up for the 5-month plan because Noom showed I would reach my goal weight within 5 months. I’m cheap, but it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in a very long time.
To join Noom and lose 5 pounds fast, or not
The choice is yours and I’m not telling you which way to go, but seriously, all you need is 2 weeks to lose 5 pounds and if you take Noom up on their trial offer, you’re not going to lose anything. Except for 5 or more pounds.
Sign up for Noom and get 2 weeks FREE.
You will love the support you get from your coach and group. The best part is, that everything you need to lose 5 pounds is living on your smartphone.
When I started with Noom, I was just going to do it for the free two weeks, but now, I’m so glad I’m continuing with the plan for a few reasons.
- I’m losing at least 1 pound a week.
- I no longer consider Corn Pops to be a vegetable. Hello, it has the word “corn” in it, and it’s fat-free. ( My crazy mind would take this unhealthy yet delicious nugget of gold and twist it to justify it was something healthy) – Shame on me!
- I’m more cognizant of what I’m eating.
- I no longer underestimate the number of calories I’m eating.
- I’m now practicing portion control and getting pretty good at it. (Eating 3 bananas at one time is not considered 1 serving. I would have never known that if it wasn’t for Noom. That’s a big fat lie. I know better, but I had to justify it to myself. “No one got fat from eating fruit, neither will I”). Nothing better than lying to yourself, right?
- I don’t feel constrained by a diet. Noom isn’t a diet; it’s a way of life.
As I mentioned before, diet plays just a part in our weight loss goals, but it’s our brain that’s the judge who decides whether we win at this weight loss game or we lose.
If I didn’t feel like Noom would help you, I wouldn’t be writing this article. Sometimes, you just need to take a leap of faith.
